Biden Cancer: Joe Biden Suffered From a Dangerous Disease | Joe Biden Medical Condition
Joe Biden Suffered from a Dangerous Disease
Former U.S. President Joe Biden, aged 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement from his office released on Sunday. The diagnosis followed the discovery of a prostate nodule after he experienced urinary symptoms. A biopsy revealed a Gleason score of 9, indicating a high-grade, fast-growing cancer.
Despite the severity, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management through hormone therapy, though it is not curative. Biden and his family are currently consulting with his medical team to determine a treatment plan.
The news has prompted an outpouring of support from across the political spectrum. Former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other political figures have expressed their well-wishes for Biden's recovery.
Biden's diagnosis comes amid ongoing discussions about his health and age, which were factors in his decision not to seek re-election in 2024. During his presidency, Biden had been treated for other health issues, including non-melanoma skin cancers and a basal cell carcinoma.
Given the advanced stage of the cancer, medical experts note that the five-year survival rate for such cases ranges between 30% and 40%.
This diagnosis is particularly poignant considering Biden's personal history; he lost his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015 and has been a strong advocate for cancer research initiatives, including the “Cancer Moonshot.”
